News: Tomato growers protest poor knowledge sharing

Farmers in Florida, US are in a stew over lack of knowledge sharing that led to crop losses predicted to cost as much as $500m in uninsured losses as well as consumer confidence.
First the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) claimed the origins of a nationwide outbreak of salmonella was caused by tomatoes. State agriculture commissioners stopped distribution. When the FDA discovered the salmonella came from Serrano peppers they didn’t inform agriculture officials until the tomato crop had perished.
